A Day for Fools (and Fun!)

On the first of April, bright and gay,
The world wakes up in a curious way,
With whoopee cushions, tricks, and cheer,
And laughter echoing far and near.

But where did this silly day begin?
Who first declared, “Let the pranks commence within?”
Some say it started in France long ago,
When calendars changed – confusing, you know!

In 1582, the new year moved date,
From springtime joy to January’s gate,
Yet some kept celebrating in April’s light,
And others laughed, “Oh fools!” – what a sight!

They played them tricks, both clever and sly,
With paper fish stuck as people passed by,
“Poisson d’Avril!” the children would cheer,
As giggles and mischief filled the air.

Across the world, the jokes took flight,
From morning pranks to news that might
Convince you spaghetti grows on trees–
(Yes, that once aired on TV, if you please!)

From fake announcements to harmless lies,
To googly eyes in surprising skies,
It’s a day to laugh, not to deceive,
A chance to smile, connect, believe.

So whether you’re tricked or doing the trick,
Keep it kind, gentle, and never too slick,
For joy is the goal, not tears or dismay–
Just laughter to brighten the fool’s own day.

So here’s to a holiday merry and light,
Of playful jokes done just right,
Where the punchline lands and hearts feel full–
Happy April Fools’ Day to every fool!
